The show is a beautiful reinvention by Christopher Wheeldon of the Oscar-winning film of the same name. It features music and lyrics by George Gershwin and Ira Gershwin as well as a new book by Craig Lucas.
An American in Paris follows the story of Jerry Mulligan, an American GI striving to make it as a painter in Paris. When he meets a beautiful young dancer named Lise, the City of Lights “became the backdrop for a sensuous, modern romance of art, friendship, and love in the aftermath of war.” The musical features songs like “I Got Rhythm”, “S Wonderful”, “I’ll Build a Stairway to Paradise”. It also includes George Gershwin’s orchestral masterpieces including “Concerto in F”.
