I went to see Beautiful with my other half and I will admit that I teared up a few times and left the theatre holding his hand very tightly and appreciating him a little more. It is that kind of show. It takes you through a whole host of emotions through song and ensures you leave with a smile on your face and a heart bursting with love. The show is very endearing and touching throughout. Some may think it’s a little too tame or ‘nice’ but I don’t personally think there is anything wrong with ‘nice’ if it is executed well. It may lack drama but sometimes a drama-less show is just as good as one that keeps you on the edge of your seat.
How is the cast?
Cassidy Janson who plays Carole King is so passionate that you that she seems like the real Carole King. Her every word seems to come straight from the heart. Most of all, she is a very loveable character and therefore an excellent choice of casting.
What kind of show is it?
It wasn’t the most action packed of shows therefore, a really nice change. The songs really are beautiful and those alone make The Carole Kind Musical worth watching.
Who should go and watch it?
I recommend those who remember Carole King’s songs to go and see this. If you were around listening to music in the 50s and 60s, you’ll be in for a treat. Having said that, I went to see this not knowing anything about Carole or being around when her songs were released. I still very much enjoyed myself. I wouldn’t recommend this for the kids due to there not being an awful not of excitement. It’s unlikely to keep them entertained but it would be a lovely watch with your other half or with the girls!
Where can I see it?
The musical is currently showing at Aldwych Theatre until November. You can get your tickets here.
The nearest station to the theatre is Covent Garden.
