The Gruffalo’s Child Musical to Play at the Lyric Theatre this Christmas

The Gruffalo’s Child musical will play at the Lyric Theatre, Shaftesbury Avenue this Christmas season. The globally acclaimed theatre announced this thrilling news following The Gruffalo‘s monstrous West End success. The festive season will showcase the production’s new set and costumes.

This production is a musical adaptation of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s award-winning sequel to The Gruffalo. The story is about the Gruffalo’s child who ignores her father’s warning and tiptoes out one snowy night. With songs, laughs, and lots of fun, Tall Stories’ magical production promises a jolly night for children and their families.

Julia Donaldson is one of the world’s most popular children book authors. Her best-selling book, The Gruffalo, has sold more than 13.5 million copies all over the world. This resulted to Donaldson becoming UK Children’s Laureate from 2011 to 2013. Aside from this, she has also received an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list for her services to literature.

Meanwhile, Axel Scheffler is a best-selling, award-winning illustrator of many of the world’s favourite picture books including The GruffaloPip and PosyThe Room on the Broom, and Zog. His career as an illustrator of children’s books began in 1986. Since then, Scheffler’s books became available in more than 40 languages.

Tall Stories to produce The Gruffalo’s Child

The Gruffalo’s Child, which will run at the Lyric Theatre from 22nd November 2017 to 8th January 2018, is produced by Tall Stories – a creative force whose productions include The Gruffalo, Olivier Award-nominated Room on the BroomThe Snail and the Whale, and The Snow Dragon. The creative team includes director Olivia Jacobs, creative producer Toby Mitchell, designer Isla Shaw, composers Jon Fiber and Andy Shaw of Jolly Good Tunes, and lighting designer James Whiteside.

Tall Stories was established in 1997 by Olivia Jacobs and Toby Mitchell, who have co-created all of the company’s shows since it started.
