The story follows the cryptic psychopath ‘Chummy’. As he tries to control himself, he pleads with private investigator Jacki Straker to stop him from killing.
Accordingly, the 21st-century theatre-noir is being produced by Encompass Productions, the same company behind the critically acclaimed sci-fi hit Stasis.
Chummy Cast and Creatives
Megan Pemberton will play as the private investigator Jackie Straker. A graduate of the Oxford School of Drama, Pemberton has fformed in various productions. Her most recent credits include After Party and Redefining Juliet.
Calum Speed plays the titular character Chummy. After training at Rose Bruford College of Theatre and Performance, he then performed in plays like Eight at White Bear Theatre, A Human Interest Story, and Last Orders at The Bread & Roses Theatre.
Meanwhile, Jessica Tomlinson joins the cast as Lucy Edwards/Karen Armitage. The London-based actress from Lancashire has performed in many theatre productions such as Blood Wedding at Tristan Bates and The Bread and Roses Theatre, No Broken Bones, and Threeway.
Chummy creator John Foster is known for his BAFTA-winning BBC Omnibus on crime novel author Raymond Chandler, Letters from a Killer starring the late Patrick Swayze, and the recent sell-out play Shot at Dawn. Presently, John Foster is also Practitioner-in-Residence at the Faculty of Media and Communication at Bournemouth University. There, he teaches screenwriting and playwriting.
Lastly, Alice Kornitzer will be directing Chummy at White Bear Theatre. A British-born director, she began her career in theatre in Berlin and toured Europe for a long time. By and large, Kornitzer has directed many well-reviewed plays across London. Her credits include Ibsen’s Peer Gynt, Wallace Shawn’s The Fever, and Yasmina Reza’s God of Carnage.
The new thriller Chummy premieres at the White Bear Theatre, Kennington on 23rd May and will run through until 10th June.
