Tony award winning musical, Dreamgirls, finally comes to the West End from November 2016. London’s Savoy Theatre will host the show, 35 years after it first premiered Broadway.

The new production is directed by Casey Nicholaw, winner of Tony and Oliver awards and current director of Broadway shows Something Rotten!, Aladdin and Book of Mormon. Glee star, Amber Riley plays the lead role of Effie White.

Influenced by the history of Motown and the real life success of acts such as The Supremes, Dreamgirls is set in the rapidly changing 1960s and 70s America. A group of three women singers from Chicago, ‘The Dreams’, set out to make it big by entering a talent competition in New York. The aspiring trio have high hopes for their careers, and the musical tells the tale of their successes and failures in fulfilling their dreams.

Dreamgirls combines show business and personal drama through the trials and tribulations of Effie, Deena and Lorrell, who learn some important lessons on the way.

The journey of ‘The Dreams’ is enhanced by the now classic musical numbers, including hit songs ‘And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going’, ‘I Am Changing’, ‘One Night Only’ and ‘Listen’. Featuring music by Henry Krieger and lyrics by Tom Eyen, Dreamgirls soundtrack is impressive.
